balanced life?

Have you ever wondered why you’re not getting exactly the right blend between work, family, business, and getting fit? Splitting our time up equally is almost impossible. Instead, we should focus on integration.

I do believe there’s an imbalance when we look at the world as a whole, however, this article is about our day-to-day lives.

As a limit pusher and a thought leader on resilience, my days often consist of training, meetings, focusing on my brand and business so with everything I’m juggling into this 24-hour period, it’s a fine art. Yes, I’m managing approximately 6-7 hours of sleep a night but it works for me because I’ve experimented and tested it several times that i can function totally fine.

Some of you need seven or eight to get you in the rhythm and some of you have kids which adds another obstacle. Then there's that rare breed that only need four hours. As mentioned, I don’t care if you have kids or you need nine hours of sleep, if you truly want something, you’ll make it happen. Where things may seem disproportionate don’t worry.

You won’t have an exact balance with seeing friends, working on business, spending time with family, and sports. So, the most optimal way is by integrating those important life pillars into one. For example, I love to travel but after my experience exploring the world to get away from my everyday job and escape the normality I was living, there was no real purpose that when I returned home, I’d get the post-trip blues and return to a job I hated.

From there and then, I made a promise from now on if I travel that it’s at least tied in with business, a charity project or an endurance race. I’ve noticed it removed the post-trip blues because I’m there for a reason and there’s no dichotomy to be working a job I’ve worked to save up for a holiday when the vacation hasn’t got any purpose behind it.

Elon Musk says "If you work 100 hours a week then you will accomplish things 2.5 times faster than someone who works 40 hours a week." This is where you learn to love the grind and you blend your tasks together to maximise your time!

  • Read 5-10 minutes of a book while you’re having breakfast, lunch, or dinner so you can learn something while having a main meal of the day

  • Make friends with the people you’re around the gym or whatever fitness community you’re apart of - you have common interests

  • Listen to a podcast or audiobook instead of music while you’re driving, on a train ride to work or cooking a meal - podcasts are free to listen to an libraries offer audiobooks for free downloads now - it's made them affordable.

  • Map out your day the night before and see what tasks clump together so you can knock them all off at once

Once I realised that time is our most valuable commodity and that we can’t go backwards in time, it got my ass into gear. To get what I truly want in life means fast-tracking the process and figuring out way to blend tasks together without losing any focus.

This concept is very similar to NET by Tony Robbins. It's his concept of No Extra Time - doing things like learning while you are doing other tasks, like washing the dishes, or walking.

With whatever you’re trying to achieve in your current lifestyle, remember it might be pointless trying get exactly an allocated balanced percentage between each facet. Instead, focus on combining your life as a whole that way your day is a streamlined and productive if anything!
